GRASSROOTSDESIGNS' inspiration comes from the clean lines of modern architecture and it's opposite: the free form of nature. Island raised (Cortes), Darya, now lives in Royston on Vancouver Island. She is self taught and works from home in a small modern studio. "I enjoy going out to my little space and developing designs. It is not uncommon for there to be prototypes and half finished inspirations scattered about my studio, and while sometimes it takes hours of visualizing, drawing, forming, testing, and then often, reshaping, other times I just start working the material and it shows me what it wants to be. ."
Darya works only in sterling silver, copper and bronze. The stones used are all A grade or higher and are natural and undyed. The combination of quality materials and simple design makes GRASSROOTS easy to wear everyday, as a complement to natural beauty.
"Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future." - Robert L. Peters
