"Making jewelry is something that I instantly fell in love with. It began as a simple project for my Brother's Girlfriend on her birthday. An idea came to mind and I did a quick drawing. The next step would hook me forever."
I knew I wanted to do something different as a gift for my Brothers Girlfriend. I knew that she loved jewerly and had a fun personality so I was convinced I could make something that would suit her. The problem was, I didn't have a clue where to start. My good friend, who also makes jewerly, took a look at my drawing and began collaborating with me on how to make it work. She showed me how to manipulate the wire, how to attach the beads and how to translate my ideas from paper into the three dimensional. I am very proud to say that I did ALL the work myself and she showed me all of these techniques using separate forms and examples.
I chose to use the Cancer Zodiac symbol and all of the June birthstone colours. I hammered each piece and wire wrapped it all by hand. I am happy to say that she liked it and I am happy to see the road it has sent me down.
I am mostly self taught and develop many of my designs through simple experimentation. Discovering a new technique or applying an old technique in a new way is very exciting for me. I often have middle of the night "brain waves" and some not so brilliant, "brilliant ideas." It is what keeps the process fresh.
